CMS AND MAP WITHDRAW MEASURE TO REQUIRE ASC REPORTING ON POST-CATARACT VISITS TO HOSPITAL
Yesterday, OOSS reported that the Measures Application Partnership would consider this week a quality measure that would have required reporting of “the combined rate of unplanned admissions, emergency department visits, and observation stays among Medicare FFS beneficiaries within 7 days after receiving a cataract surgery at an ambulatory surgery center or other outpatient facility.” We vehemently objected to this misguided measure, emphasizing that ASCs lack the legal and practical access to hospital records and could not report such data and urging that it be rejected.
We are pleased to report that CMS has withdrawn the measure and it is no longer under consideration by the Measures Application Partnership.
OOSS will keep you abreast of further developments. Should you have any questions regarding the rule, please contact our Washington Counsel, Michael Romansky, at mromansky@OOSS.org.
